FLORHAM PARK, NJ — Livingston students in grades 3 through 5 recently participated in the fall Girls on the Run program, which encourages young girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. The season culminated in the Florham Park PBA Turkey Trot 5K, a celebratory, non-competitive event that provided the girls with a sense of accomplishment and instilled the value of goal setting at a young age.

Every fall, the Livingston Girls on the Run program also makes a meaningful contribution to their community through a team-organized Community Impact Project. This year, the girls wrote thank you letters to the Livingston Police Department, and also presented them with a basket of snacks and treats.

“It’s a fantastic experience for us as coaches—and this season especially because this is a wonderful group of girls who came together, supported one another, ran wonderfully and did a great community impact project,” said coach Randi Cohen.

Also coaching this season were Sue Wells Goldstein, Wendy Keyes, Heidi Lerner, Dassi Matiteyahu and junior coach Michaela Wang.

Girls on the Run allows participants to gain a better understanding of who they are and what's important to them, the value of teamwork and healthy relationships and how they can have a positive impact on the world. The program inspires an appreciation for fitness and healthy habits and teaches life skills including treating others with care, practicing gratitude and managing emotions.

“At Girls on the Run, I learned how to make your star power shine,” said Sophie Drost.

“I had a lot of fun. I learned new things and made new friends,” said Mia Itskovich.
