17-Year-Old Shot in Maplewood Monday Night

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – Police report that a 17-year-old male was shot in the legs by an unknown assailant near the intersection of Schaefer Road and Jacoby Street around 10 p.m. Monday night.

Maplewood Police and Maplewood Fire EMS units were dispatched to the scene and found the victim conscious and alert on the sidewalk.

A preliminary investigation by police indicated that the victim left a party being held on Schaefer Road when he was approached by two males.

“One suspect was described as a light skinned black male wearing shorts. The other suspect was described as a dark skinned black male wearing a blue shirt,” said a release from the Maplewood Police Department.

“The light skinned male produced a handgun and fired several shots at the victim striking him the legs. The two suspects then fled the area,” the report said.

The unidentified victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he was being treated for gunshot wounds to his legs.

Detectives of the Maplewood Police Department are actively investigating the incident and request that anyone with any information regarding the case please contact the Maplewood Police Department at 973-762-2333.

The incident is the second shooting of a teenager in the area in a week.  As reported earlier, Livingston teen Brendan Tevlin was shot and killed late Thursday night.
