CAMDEN, NJ — Two days after Camden County crossed 8,000 COVID-19 cases, officials have announced yet another devastating figure.

"With a heavy heart, we have 22 new COVID-19 deaths. . . this brings our total number of victims over 500 to 501," Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli said Friday.

Four months into the outbreak, at least 8,089 have tested positive for the respiratory illness throughout Camden County municipalities.

Since Wednesday, the county health department confirmed an additional 58 positive screenings.

“This pandemic has been marked by one grim milestone after another. Today, we announce with a heavy heart the loss of 22 additional Camden County residents, bringing our total number of victims to over 500,” said Cappelli. “The toll of this pandemic has been absolutely devastating. Hundreds of families in our community have been torn apart by this virus, and news from around the country raises fears that we will continue to face additional loss of life in the weeks and months ahead."
