EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - PSEG has reported that Middlesex County was hit the worst during this hurricane. In East Brunswick they report almost 14,000 power outages, says East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen in a posting today.
PSEG is also reporting that their system is overwhelmed with power outage reports. This may be why some folks cannot get through to a help line.
JCPL reports about 3,200 outages in East Brunswick, says Cohen. In total, this means that almost 75% of the township is out of power. Both companies are working on restoration, but they must follow a priority schedule.
"Power companies are working very hard to get power restored. Middlesex County was hit particularly hard, and East Brunswick was hit the worst in the county. Downed trees on power lines are the problems of the greatest concern," Cohen said. "We have 22 square miles of town. We don't want people to go near power lines or dangerous fallen trees. The EBPD and EBFD and the Department of Parks is working to clear roads while the power companies are dealing with problems that provide different levels of challenge."
The township has been told that, despite working hard to restore power, this could be a five-day outage. "That would be the worst-case scenario," said Cohen.
