May is National Bike Month and to celebrate, the AAA New Jersey Automobile Club is hosting a fun, free Bike Rodeo on Saturday, May 15 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at AAA Florham Park (1 Hanover Road). The goal of the event is to educate young cyclists about bike safety and promote safe riding techniques in an effort to prevent injury.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 13 percent of all cyclists killed and 25 percent of those injured in traffic crashes were under age 16. One way to help prevent head or brain injury is to always wear an approved bike helmet and the AAA New Jersey Automobile Club encourages all bicyclists, not just children, to wear a helmet, share the road and exercise caution all year long.
Children (ages 5-12) and their parents are invited to attend the Bike Rodeo and learn about bicycle safety. The event will feature different stations that each showcase an aspect of bicycle safety. Participants will learn safe bike riding techniques, have their bike adjusted to "fit" them, learn how to properly fit a bike helmet and enjoy fun, bike-based games. Light refreshments will be served.
All registered participants must wear a bicycle helmet and proper padding (elbow/knee) to participate.
