Today marks the beginning of the Somerset Hills American Association of University Women’s Book Sale. The sale is an annual event where books are sold and the majority of the proceeds go to charity. This year’s sale begins today and will continue through Saturday at 3 p.m. and is held at the Bernardsville Middle School, which is located on Seney Drive.
The AAUW Book Sale has been taking place at the Somerset Hills chapter for over 60 years. Most years, there are over 40,000 books, which are organized by volunteers and help to raise approximately $25,000 for charity.
The fundraiser is set up in multiple rooms of the middle school. The main room holds hard cover and paperback books, which are priced at $1.00 apiece. The rare and choice books are put in a different room and are priced by book.
The AAUW’s mission is to push for equality for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. According to the AAUW, the book sale raises money for AAUW scholarships, their Legal Advocacy Fund, scholarships for college, local libraries and the host school library.
