NEW YORK, NY- The 2020 USA Football Heart of a Giant Award presented by Hospital for Special Surgery and NY Giants announced another set of outstanding Tri-State area high school football player nominees open for voting. These students have been nominated by their coaches for their commitment, teamwork, will, character and dedication.
- Aden Koenigsberg; Randolph High School (Randolph, NJ)
Football is so much more to Aden Koenigsberg than a sport; his football team is his family. Aden’s family is the most important thing to him in the world. From the beginning of camp through the season, Koenigsberg lost two of his grandparents. These being the first family deaths Koenigsberg experienced, he was going through many new and unfamiliar emotions and depression. During this time, Koenigsberg’s teammates showed him what it meant to be a part of the team. “At my grandmother's Shiva, my head coach and numerous teammates came to my house to pay their respects-even some teammates that I was not incredibly close with,” said Koenigsberg. Football has been his rock and his way of escaping the difficult thoughts and emotions while he’s on the field.
The voting period for these nominees is now open until November 8, at 11:59 p.m. ET with the final vote tally determining who will be named the group’s finalist.
Overall, there will be 11 total finalists and each finalist will receive $1,000 for their high school’s football program, with the grand prize winner’s school getting an additional $4,000. The grand prize winner will be selected based on video submissions stating why they have the Heart of a Giant.
