Advisory: IRS Collection Call a Hoax

April 25, 2014 at 10:40 AM

MONTVILLE, NJ - According to the Montville Township Police Department, Montville residents have been receiving calls from people stating they are either the police or Internal Revenue Service [IRS] Agents.

The caller tells residents they need to send money via a gift card to settle an account. Residents should be aware that this is a hoax.

The Montville Police do not collect for the IRS nor does the IRS solicit payment via the phone. Montville Police recommend residents do not give the caller any personal information and do not send any type of payment.

Montville Police are investigating the hoax.
