SHORT HILLS, NJ – Aldea Hair and Nails Studio in Short Hills is throwing a day-long party on Friday, December 6 to celebrate their second anniversary. Owner Mitzy Cevallos will be hosting the event at the salon from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 38 Chatham Road, across from the Short Hills Train Station.
“When I saw this space, I had this moment when I knew this was home,” Cevallos said. “I wanted a small European style salon that I could build and become part of the community.”
She insisted on a ten-year lease and embarked on an ambitious renovation of the former John’s Hair Fashions space, replacing windows, fixtures, floor, ceiling and virtually everything about the place, transforming it into the salon she had always dreamed of opening.
Cevallos had worked as a stylist out of her home for seven years before opening Aldea on December 6, 2011. She had planned and imagined the salon she would some day open.
The name, Aldea, is Spanish for “small village,” which is the vision she has for the salon. As the business grows, she would like to extend her village to include custom hair-care products, skin care, massage, a kid’s salon and more.
Cevallos is already coming up with creative ideas for the studio. For example, she is tapping into the growing popularity of blowouts by designating every Sunday morning the time for “Bagels and Blowouts,” from 9 a.m. until noon.
She admits to being puzzled about why so many people are choosing to go to places for blowouts where they are not being styled by trained, licensed professionals. She hopes the Sunday blowout parties will serve as a way to introduce new customers to a superior experience and the professional stylists of Aldea.
Friday’s anniversary party will feature raffle prizes, product swag-bags, and t-shirts, as well as plenty of food and wine to enjoy.
