ELIZABETH, NJ - The Federal Breakfast and Lunch Program, which is open to all Elizabeth Public School students, had their first of three pick-up dates on Monday.
Families can pick two breakfasts and two lunches on Wednesday and Friday this week at the designated schools from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The pick-up locations are schools 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 51, 52, Hamilton Academy, Dwyer Academy, Halsey Academy, Edison Academy and Elizabeth High school. Families do not have to pick up the four meals at their child's school but can go to the school that is closest to their home.
Unlike the free and reduced lunch program, there is no eligibility for this free breakfast and lunch program; any Elizabeth Public School student can participate. This is a continuation of the Summer Food Service program that the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue extended through the end of 2020 due to the economic strain the pandemic has caused. The grab and go setup that had previously not been allowed for Federal summer food programs was introduced earlier this year to prevent participants from congregating in one area for an extended period of time.
