Allen W. Roberts Elementary School Presents “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”

January 26, 2013 at 10:45 AM

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The theater always brings people together and on Friday night, the stars were shining bright as students at Allen W. Roberts Elementary School danced, sang and performed “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) held their annual Theater Week and several parents volunteered for the past two weeks and spent many long nights prepping the kids for the show. Each year, the second grade through the fourth grade puts on a show in January and everyone pitches in. The Theater Week co-chairs were Kimberly Jonny, Diana Gittardi and Namrita Grover.

Assistant Principal Jay Richter said he was quite impressed with the efforts of the kids and told TheAlternativePress.com that they put on a tremendous show. He added that the parents' assistance should not go unnoticed.

The co-chairs said they had a great experience working with the children.

“It’s so gratifying. The kids had a lot of fun and so did we,” said Jonny, who has volunteered for the Theater Week for six years.

In about eight days, the children learned all of their lines and songs and performed a flawless show that had the attendees in the packed gymnasium laughing and applauding throughout the performance. There were two acts, both with Snoopy, Linus, Lucy, Charlie Brown and the gang, but each act featured different children.

Third graders Kelly Gomez, Christine Benites and Sophia Botvinis all enjoyed participating in the show. Gomez said while it was fun to be on stage, it was difficult to remember her lines.

Benites is a good singer so singing in front of everyone was a piece of cake, she said.

“I really enjoyed it because we had to sing and I like to sing,” she said. “I thought it was really cool and funny.”

Botvinis, who played Lucy, has done theater before and said she loves acting and making people laugh.

“I thought it was really fun and exciting because I had a lot of parts and I could be on stage with my friends,” Botvinis said.
