BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Aoife Rouse, 11, from Berkeley Heights, demonstrated the latest rubber-band bracelet trend to Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Natalie Marales, Al Roker and Jenna Wolfe on the Today Show Thursday morning.
"Unexpected craze (The Rainbow Loom) is sweeping the nation this summer," Lauer reported. The trend is only going to grow. With school starting soon, kids will be trading and sharing this new fad. Lauer asked Aoife, "You love this, don't you? Why?" Aoife, surrounded by these celebrity anchors, answered, "It is so fun, so many colors, so portable, and just fun to make." Being the Rainbow Loom expert, Aoife then demonstrated how to make the bracelets on the loom. Aiofe, beaming with confidence, is a true natural in front of the camera.
Aoife's day began with a driver picking her and her mother, Fiona, up at 6 a.m. to bring her into New York to be a guest on the show. While she didn't show signs of being nervous, her excitement kept her up all night. "I was excited when I walked down the halls and saw Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, and Savannah Guthrie. I saw Jenna in hair and make-up," Aoife said when asked about her experience. What a big day for an 11 year old girl.
The Rainbow Loom started as a basement business of a mid western family posting how-to videos on Youtube. With 3 million hits on Youtube, other demonstrations started popping up all over the country.
