Community leaders, businessmen and Scouters will join together to honor Eagle Scout John Pullara on October 24. John will be receiving the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award in recognition for his dedication to his community and for exemplifying the values of the Boy Scouts of America. John is Senior Vice President of DeWitt Stern on Lexington Avenue, New York City, where he specializes in tailoring risk management for high net worth clients, including musicians and entertainers. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1986 and he remains involved in Scouting to this day. Both his sons Johnny and Matthew are Scouts, and John is Committee Chair for Cub Scout Pack 368 in Berkeley Heights. He also contributes in other areas including organizing golf fundraisers for the Patriots’ Path Council, raising over $100,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and securing a DeWitt Stern and Fireman's Fund grant of $17,104 for the Berkeley Heights Fire Department to purchase much-needed rescue equipment. In addition, he coaches PAL soccer and helps the boy-band that his eldest son is in – “The Flies” - to prepare for their public performances.
2012 is the centenary for the rank of Eagle Scout, after New Yorker Arthur Eldred earned the first Eagle in 1912. Since then Eagle Scout has remained the highest rank that Scouts can earn, something that only about 5% of Scouts achieve. John symbolizes the over 2 million Eagle Scouts since 1912 including leaders from all areas of American society including presidents, astronauts, entertainers, athletes, religious and business leaders as well as Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. 11 of the 12 moonwalkers, including the late Neil Armstrong, were Eagle Scouts as were all three members of the Apollo 13 crew.
Most Eagle Scouts will attest to the value of their rank in college applications and in careers, but also of the leadership, character, ethical standards and life skills built up throughout their Scouting experiences as boys. The celebration will be held at The Maritime Parc in Jersey City at 6:30 PM on October 24, 2012.
