Armed Robbery at Raceway Gas Station

LIVINGSTON, NJ – Police are searching for a man who held up Raceway Gas Station at 266 South Orange Avenue Sunday night just before 10:00 p.m.

A gas station employee told police he observed a silver Jeep Liberty with several occupants inside pull into the gas station at 9:30 p.m. The vehicle sat near the side of the station for 10-15 minutes before pulling away.

The employee subsequently went inside and began to lock up when a black male, wearing a ski mask, gloves and all black clothing, confronted him. The suspect pushed his way into the store, punched the Raceway employee, and then put a knife to the employee’s throat, demanding money. The suspect stole $1500 and fled toward Passaic Avenue.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Department responded, bringing in a police dog to track the assailant. The dog stopped at roughly the second house on Passaic Avenue where police believe a getaway vehicle was waiting.
