PATERSON, NJ- A Paterson man faces up to 20 years in prison on charges stemming from his alleged role in a shooting incident that took place on Saturday in the area of Atlantic Street and Newark Avenue.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald, an investigation led to the arrest of Malik M. Hasan, 20, in relation to the shooting with the suspect facing additional charges based on items recovered during his arrest.

Hasan has been charged with a variety of crimes inlcuding Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possesion of and Intent to Distribute Marijuana. The suspect was also found to be in possession of a handgun and a large capacity ammunition magazine.

During the incident a Paterson man, mistaken by the homeowners of the property in which he sought refuge as a burglar, suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds for which he was treated at Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment.
