Art After 5 Celebrates Spring April; Comedy Stop holds April Fool night

 

This spring, the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s popular Art After 5 music series, brings new faces and old favorites to Friday nights in the Great Stair Hall from 5:45 to 8:45 p.m. The season presents Latin American jazz, poetry, percussion, and piano performances, along with opera theater, drag cabaret, and Portuguese fado.

April 19: La Dolce Vita Opera meets cabaret in performances from the innovative Center City Opera Theater. Sharing the bill is DisCanto, a group of conservatory-trained musicians who reinterpret traditional southern Italian songs April 26: Sofia Tosello Tosello’s Latin American–flavored jazz combines the passion of tango with the sensuality of Afro-Peruvian and creole music.

The Comedy Stop Café & Cabaret in Atlantic City will give their reigning ‘#1 Fool’ his night in the spotlight on Friday, April 19 at 9 p.m.


Mays Landing, NJ resident Jason Cooper was crowned the area’s ‘#1 Fool’ on April 1 – better known as April Fool’s Day – during  a comedy contest at The Comedy Stop. Cooper received the top cash prize of $300 and the title #1 Fool, plus a performance during the regular Comedy Stop Show – that performance takes place this Friday in front of friends, family and a full Comedy Stop house.

Cooper describes himself as an “energetically thoughtful” comedian. He is truly a multi-talented individual who brings a little bit of everything to his show, from vocally mimicking different musical styles to the simplest of musings. Jason currently hosts a monthly comedy show at The Rail in Richland, NJ.

The Comedy Stop Café & Cabaret has been the training ground for world-class comedians, including Tim Allen, Rosie O’Donnell, Richard Jeni, Drew Carey, Brett Butler, Ray Romano, Emo Phillips, Judy Tenuta, Lewis Black and Richard Lewis.

Comedy shows take place nightly in a $3 million, state-of-the-art, 300-seat theater with three headline comedians featured and new acts rotating weekly. Guests must be 18 years or older to attend comedy shows. Show times are Sunday to Thursday at 9 p.m. ($25 per ticket) and Friday & Saturday at 9 p.m. ($27 per ticket) & 11:15 p.m. ($25 per ticket). In addition to admission, a one-drink minimum is required inside the showroom. The box office is open daily at 11 a.m.

The Comedy Stop is excited to announce an all-new comedy magic at 6:30 p.m. starting Thursday, May 16. Magician and Atlantic City native Joe Holiday will bring his internationally acclaimed show to the Comedy Stop six nights a week (no show on Wednesdays). This fresh and lively family-friendly show promises fun and amazement for all ages.
