DENVILLE, NJ – Dr. Arthur Sheppell’s medical practice in Denville and Fellowship Senior Living’s Medical Group have merged to develop one, specialized geriatrics program for older adults living at Fellowship Village and in communities within Morris and Somerset counties. For more than 30 years Dr. Sheppell, a board-certified geriatrician and internist, has provided primary medical and geriatric care to many patients from north and western Morris County.

Sheppell was a former Community Physician at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge 20 years ago. Afterward, he became the director of geriatric medicine at Morristown Medical Center. In addition to his Denville practice, he has served as a part-time medical director at Fellowship Village for the last three years.

“This affiliation allows Dr. Sheppell to continue his robust practice in Denville under the Fellowship Senior Living umbrella, while growing the Fellowship Medical Group practice at Fellowship Village. Dr. Sheppell will remain on staff at St. Clare’s in Denville and Morristown Medical Center. We are all very pleased to welcome Dr. Sheppell as part of our Fellowship family to further help us make a difference in all the lives that we touch,” said Brian Lawrence, president and CEO of Fellowship Senior Living.

Geriatricians have a deeper understanding, expertise and skills to recognize that conditions in an older adult often manifest differently than illness in a younger person. They know the importance of helping older adults maintain independence and an active lifestyle through the right treatment methods that will promote optimal health outcomes with an emphasis on healthy aging, preventive care and safety.

“As geriatricians, we are trained to recognize when issues are a normal part of the aging process rather than being caused by disease or medication side effects. We specialize in geriatric syndromes. This specialization puts Fellowship Village in the forefront of Geriatric Care,” said Sheppell. “I look forward to being a key leader of the Fellowship Medical Group while providing excellence in the care of our residents and the community.”

Sheppell will continue to see patients in his Denville office.
