HAWTHORNE, NJ - Mayor Richard Goldberg released his weekly letter to the borough, found below:

Dear Resident,

The numbers as of this morning are 479 total cases, 20 fatalities, and 5 active cases. Our last fatality was in the beginning of May. We apparently are in the second wave of the virus; however, our numbers have remained between 4 and 10 active cases for a while.

Our newsletter delivers the local news that you can trust.

We still need to wear masks, wash hands and keep socially distant from one another. I understand the fatigue factor; we have been doing this since March. Remember that wearing a mask not only protects you, but those around you.

Next Wednesday evening October 28th at 7:00 PM the Hawthorne Pride Alliance will be hosting a program on bullying. Jen Ehrentraut will be speaking; she is a cousin of Tyler Clementi. The program will be broadcast on our local access channels on Cablevision/Altice and Verizon Fios as well as live streaming on Facebook.

With limited indoor dining and the weather getting colder, we must balance the desire to help our restaurants and our personal comfort level. Don’t eat inside if you are uncomfortable doing so. Perhaps it’s time to order take-out and eat at home. Our local eating establishments and local businesses need our help. Please shop local.

The Municipal Building is open on an appointment basis. Temperatures will be taken at the door and social distancing must be maintained.

Keep using masks and practice social distancing. It has crushed the curve. Please don’t become complacent.

A week from tomorrow is Halloween. Our website www.hawthornenj.org has helpful hints for a safe experience for you and your children.

For those of you who aren’t aware, the Borough has a non-perishable food pantry. If you need food and can’t afford or can’t get to a supermarket, please call the Board of Health at 973-427-4011. Many thanks to those people who have donated food to the Borough’s food pantry as well as supplies and food for our first responders.

Please call us at the Municipal Building should you need assistance. Our main number is 973-427-5555, and my office is 973-427-1168.

Sincerely,
Mayor Goldberg
