Assault Lands West Orange Youth in Hospital


WEST ORANGE, NJ - A West Orange sixteen-year old was assaulted on May 27 at approximately 8:27 pm in the vicinity of Valley Road and Mitchell Streets, landing the boy in the hospital.

It is unknown why the assault occurred or whether the individuals knew each other. As police arrived on the scene, they found the victim unconscious in the street. He was transported to UMDNJ in Newark and is listed in stable condition as of this morning. No weapon was used in the assault.

Witnesses described the assailant and informed police of the direction in which he fled. Police apprehended Khajah Gaye, 21, also of West Orange, at the corner of Valley Road and Central Avenue, approximately two blocks from where the assault occurred.

Gaye was taken into custody and is currently incarcerated at the Essex County Correctional Facility, with bail set at $50,000.
