John Groot, a model railroad enthusiast, will speak on the subject “Trains in the Garden” to the Old Guard of Summit at its Meeting, 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 5th, 2013.
Mr. Groot is former Chairman of the Knotts Company, an automation and motion control service company. He is also Treasurer of the Big Train Operator Club and a Member of the Bay Area Garden Railway Society. Model Trains are thought of as a man's hobby; when they are in a Garden, they become a family pastime. Mr. Groot’s address will include a visual presentation showing the construction and maintenance of an outdoor model railroad. He will illustrate alternative outdoor arrangements, and suggest the “dos” and “don’ts” of such arrangements based on personal experiences.
All age 50-plus active men are invited to attend the Tuesday morning meetings of the Summit Area Old Guard. Meetings are held at the New Providence Municipal Center, 360 Elkwood Avenue, New Providence. A coffee hour starts at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. business meeting brightened by singing and humor. The speaker begins at 10:30 a.m.
Old Guard members participate in sports, bridge, hikes, trips, plays, concerts and other cultural events. Call Ralph Ortega at 908-244-4384 for more information. Or log onto the website www.summitoldguard.homestead.com.
