Modern Healthcare Summit Features Health Care Industry Leaders
Four members of the Health Care Transformation Consortium participated on a panel of health care leaders who shared their expertise and innovative solutions to industry challenges as part of Modern Healthcare’s Healthcare Transformation Summit in Austin, TX (May 16-17). The panel, moderated by Kevin Joyce, Vice President, Insurance Networks, Atlantic Health System also included Ryan Kennedy, Chief Financial Officer, Holy Name Medical Center; Tarun Kapoor, MD, President, Virtua Physician Partners; and Garrick Stoldt, Chief Financial officer, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System.
The panel highlighted the innovative New Jersey-based Healthcare Transformation Consortium (HTC), an example of how health systems are working collaboratively to offer more choice and improve the quality of care delivered to their employees while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
HTC is a collaborative of seven health care organizations, each with self-funded employee health plans, using their shared expertise to address an issue many businesses now face: how to improve access to high-quality health care for covered employees and dependents while reducing costs.
As health care organizations that are collectively providing medical benefits to nearly 75,000 employees and families in New Jersey, HTC is looking to lead in improving the quality and affordability of care. Formed in February 2018, HTC members include Atlantic Health System, CentraState Healthcare System, Holy Name Medical Center, Hunterdon Healthcare, St Joseph’s Health, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System and Virtua.
The model developed by HTC can be shared locally with other self-insured employers and replicated nationally. The HTC will share best practices, learn from one another, and lead the transition from fee-for-service to value-based care, using their own benefit plans as proving grounds.
“This is an exciting and challenging time for the health care industry,” said Kevin Joyce, Vice President, Insurance Networks for Atlantic Health System. “As health care providers we must continuously seek new and innovative ways to deliver high quality, cost-effective care to the patients and communities that rely on us. This Summit provided the perfect forum for health care leaders to discuss ways we can work together to transform how health care is delivered.”

Healthcare is transforming at a rapidly accelerating rate. Shifting healthcare policy, an intensified focus on population health, health information technology, an increased incentive to increase scale and market share, and a growing call to engage patients in their care are creating challenges, that require collaboration and innovation by all.
