PATERSON, NJ - A woman talking on her cell phone warded off a robber's attempt to steal the phone on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Straight and Van Houten streets, where a Hispanic female using her phone was approached at around 8 p.m. by a black male who made a grab for the phone and tried to wrest it away from the woman, according to Paterson police.

The victim successfully put up a struggle and the suspect was unable to take the phone before giving up and running away. The woman was not hurt.
