Barbecue, Concert and a Movie This Weekend in Sparta

SPARTA, NJ - There are several summer events in Sparta on Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19.  Beginning on Friday evening, the Sparta VFW Post 7248 is donating the proceeds of their summer Friday night barbecue to the Friends of Sal.  Dinner is served from 5 until 7 p.m. They offer chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, homemade potato salad, coleslaw, dessert and a drink for $8. You can eat there or take it home with you.

Also on Friday is the latest Summer Concert Series organized by the Sparta Cultural Affairs Committee.  Freedy Johnson will be performing at 7 p.m. in Dykstra Park. The trio Brady Moon will perform as the opening act. The show is free.  In the event of rain the concert will be relocated to the Mohawk Avenue School Auditorium. The concert series is sponsored by Eastern Propane, Burke’s Wine, Sparta Farmers Market, Law Office of Maryjean Ellis, Blue Diamond Disposal and Garlic and Oil.

On Saturday night Dykstra Park will once again be the place to be for entertainment in Sparta.  The second free family movie night will feature Iron Man III.  There will be DJ music prior to the movie and snacks will be available for purchase.  The show will begin at dusk, approximately 8 p.m.  The rain date is July 26.

Sparta Police Seek Help Identifying Car Burglary Suspect

SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta police are asking the community for help in locating a person of interest in several car burglaries.

SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed into a light pole.  On January 9 around 11 p.m. Sparta police Cpl. Kurt Morris responded to the report of a naccident on West Shore Trail near White Deer Plaza according to police.
