The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey is actively seeking youthful participants for its third annual  Pearl and Julius Young‘Rising Stars’ Competition, winners of which will be selected on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Dolan Performance Hall, College of Saint Elizabeth, 2 Convent Road, Morristown.
Announcements of the annual competition have been sent recently to music educators throughout the state.  The competition, open to young classical instrumentalists, between the ages of 16-22, will give the first-prize winner a unique opportunity to play a concerto movement from the Baroque or Classical period with the Orchestra at its May 1, 2011 concert.  It also carries a $1,000 cash prize.
The Orchestra will also be awarding four additional prizes, also to classical instrumentalists for: $500, $250, and two Honorable Mentions of $100 each.  Applications must be received by January 4, 2011.
The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, founded 15 years ago by Dr. Robert W. Butts, its current conductor and Artistic Director, has quickly become one of New Jersey’s premier chamber music orchestras, and the only orchestra specializing in the music of the Baroque and Classical periods.  The Orchestra maintains a regular series of concerts during the year, in addition to chamber music concerts, opera performances and a week-long Summer Music Festival of Baroque Music.
