ROXBURY, NJ -  The air was warm, the sun was out and the Roxbury High School baseball team's bats came alive and bounced back Saturday to beat Morristown-Beard (MB) 9-8 in extra innings.

With the win, Roxbury improved its record to 3-2. It was career win number 302 for coach Greg Trotter who was honored at the game for recently reaching the 300-win mark.

In the second inning, after a scoreless first, Roxbury took advantage of four walks and back-to-back base hits by Nick Danna and Brian Dachowski to take an early 5-0 lead.

From there, Roxbury was held scoreless thru the next three innings while MB added runs in the third, fourth and fifth. Going into the sixth inning, Roxbury was trailing 8-5.

But the Gaels posted three more runs in the seventh inning to tie the game 8-8. Donovan Brady drove in two of the three runs with a 2-out clutch base hit.

In the first extra inning (bottom of the 8th), Andy Axelson led the attack with a double to right center field.  After MB intentionally walked the bases loaded in attempt to get out of the inning with a force out, C.J. Danna hit a base hit with two outs to drive in Axelson - capping an exciting come-from-behind 9-8 victory for Roxbury.

Roxbury used five pitchers during the game. Brothers Jack and Will Findlay started and closed the game respectively for the Gaels. Michael Roumes, Nick Albuquerque and Eric Silfies provided mid relief.

The team next plays Monday at home against Pope John XXIII.
