CHATHAM, NJ - Debra Becker received a laudable sendoff for her four-year tenure as the director of human resources as she began her retirement after the District of the Chathams Board of Education meeting held Monday night.

Becker's successor is Beth Grant, who leaves a similar position she held for three years in Montville to join the district. Becker received the highest praise from Dr. Michael LaSusa, District of the Chathams superintendent.

"In some districts in which I worked, you never wanted to hear from the director of human resources because it was usually bad news,"  LaSusa said. "Of all the good work that Deb has done for us, the piece I'm most appreciative of is that she has managed somehow, particularly the teachers, to have people view the human resources office as a resource.

'She's developed relationships with our teaching staff and the teaching staff is where the action is. They are the most important part of the district. So that's something that I'll never forget. I'm awfully, awfully grateful that Deb has built such a good relationship with the most important part of the district. So. I thank you, Deb."
