Beckerman Identifies saving in Scotch Plains Budget

“I am pleased that health insurance premiums paid for by the Township will drop by over 60K in 2014,” said Beckerman.  “Using my experience as an Insurance Professional, I realized Scotch Plains was missing an opportunity to save significant money.  By requiring our provider to put our coverage out to bid, we were able to significantly cut costs.”

This 60K savings is on top of the 80K savings Scotch Plains realized in the 2013 Municipal Budget when the town changed insurance brokers to Doyle Alliance during the standard RFP process.  The Township is also anticipating additional savings on the property & casualty insurance as well as improved policy terms as a result of similar bidding.

“These savings are just another example of how the new governing body is working to change the direction in Scotch Plains.  Like our residents do at home, our town has to live within its means, and look to cut costs.  This is just another example of how we are doing that”
