Beer Tasting Event Brewing for Lansdale Founders Day
A wine tasting event at last August's Founders Day event in Lansdale was a hit at the Lansdale Library, but there was one problem -- August is harvest time.
"It is difficult for wineries to come out," Lansdale Library Director Tom Meyer told the Library Committee this week.
So, Friends of the Library are working on organizing a beer tasting event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. inside the library's Lynn Janoff Memorial Room at the August 23 Founders Day celebration.
"They want to go with just beer. We have Round Guys Brewery on board, and we're working to get Sly Fox on board," Meyer said.
Library Committee member Steve Malagari suggested asking Prism Beer in Upper Gwynedd, Free Will Brewery in Perkasie and Forest and Main Brewery in Ambler to take part in the tasting.
Malagari asked how many people Meyer expected for the event. Meyer said 120 people would be "controllable ... reasonable."
"We did the wine tasting last year, and there was 20 or 40 people. We made money off of it," Meyer said.
Meyer estimated the fee for the tasting at $35 per person, maybe less.
"I would try and see if any of the local breweries would hold tickets to sell at their establishments," Malagari said.
Founders Day runs from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., culminating with fireworks from Memorial Park, viewable from Penndale Middle School's fields.
This year's theme is "A Town That's Hot," as Discover Lansdale is recognizing Fairmount Fire Company's 125th anniversary.
