NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – Berkeley Aquatics, also known as BAC Center for Excellence (BAC), purchased the Panasonic building on Central Avenue in New Providence and has plans to move a portion of its operations there pending final site plan approval by the New Providence Planning Board. It is likely that BAC will continue to operate its facility in Berkeley Heights, as well.
The plans for the Panasonic building include building an indoor Olympic-size pool next to the building. Inside the building will be two pools and a training facility. The additional space in the building will not be rented out.
Final site plan approval is expected at the March 4th Planning Board meeting. BAC is seeking several minor variances and there is a drainage issue on that property and adjacent properties that needs to be resolved.
Reacting to the news, candidate for Mayor of New Providence, Al Morgan, posted on Facebook and wrote, “I am very excited that Berkeley Aquatics Club (BAC) will be joining our New Providence family on Central Ave! BAC is not only an asset for New Providence's local economy, but it is a welcomed addition to our community landscape. Thank you to Jim Wood, Councilmen Gary Kapner and Dr. Bob Robinson along with Doug Marvin and Bill Hoefling for helping to make Jim's dream a reality.”
