BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - On Sunday Dec. 15 at 11:27 p.m., Ptl. William Fettes arrested Xavier B. Rodrigues, 26, of Berkeley Heights. Fettes was on patrol when he observed a vehicle which appeared to be stuck in the snow and mud in the Berkeley Heights Community Pool parking lot. Upon further investigation, Rodrigues was identified as the operator of the 2007 Lexus and determined to have had driven under the influence, at which time he was placed under arrest. Rodrigues was brought to police headquarters, processed and charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit breath samples, reckless driving and failure to report a motor vehicle accident. Rodrigues was given a date to appear in Berkeley Heights Municipal Court and released into the custody of a family member.
On Monday, Dec. 16 at 11:10 p.m., Ptl. Jeanne Marie Mocarski responded to an Old Farm address to investigate a reported burglary. Upon arrival, the officer was able to determine that the residence was forcibly entered; however nothing was verified to have been taken from the home. A detective responded to the scene for processing and the matter is currently referred to the Investigations Division.
