BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad (BHVRS) announced its 2013 Scholarship Recipients: Scott Brookes, Allie Deegan and Grace Mammen. They were chosen to receive these awards based on their service to the squad, academic performance, and participation in school activities and other community service. Each will receive $1,000 to fund higher education expenses.
Scott, co-captain of the BHVRS Cadets in 2012-2013, received the Cadet scholarship award and is currently enrolled in the nursing program at George Mason University. Allie, Cadet Captain 2011-2012, is a pre-med student at Quinnipiac University majoring in biology. Grace is a post-baccalaureate pre-med student majoring in biology at William Patterson University. All joined the Squad in 2010/2011 and have since earned their certification as NJ EMTs. Though busy with their studies they all still find time to be active members of BHVRS providing pre-hospital emergency care to the Berkeley Heights community as well as mutual aid to neighboring towns.
BHVRS is staffed 100 percent by volunteers. All services are provided free of charge, 24 hours/day, seven days/week, 365 days/year. Funding for BHVRS is principally through your tax-deductable donations. Contact them at 908-464-1141.
