BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Despite the forecast for rain, the 59th Annual Town and Country League All Team Swim meet took place Saturday, Aug. 2 at Berkeley Swim Club. Six swim teams from the Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Chatham and Summit area participated in the competition bringing their best swimmers.
Clearwater Swim Club, the Dual meet champion throughout the season, took the title easily with a high score of 320 points. The battle for 2nd was a close race with only a 10 point difference between Crestview Swim Club, 227 points, and Berkeley Swim Club with 217 points. Minisink, Fish and Game and Noe Pond followed in 4th, 5th and 6th place, respectively.
Three All Team records were broken at Saturday’s meet. The Relay team of Nick Gold, Cormac Rouse, Jayson Haddad and Maddie Scammell from Berkeley Swim Club broke the 10 and under 100 meter Medley Relay with a time of 1:18.39 seconds, breaking a record from 2011. Dylan Ingerman from Clearwater Swim Club broke the Boys 13/14 year old 50 meter Butterfly record with a time of 28.12 seconds, breaking a record from 2007. Emily Gorham from Minisink Swim & Tennis Club broke the Girls 15/17 year old 50 meter Butterfly record with a time of 30.40 seconds, breaking a record from 2008.
The Town and Country League was started in the mid-1950’s and is considered to be the oldest summer swimming league in the country. Trophies recording the annual winner for the dual meets and also the All Team meet are awarded to two of the swim clubs each year.
