Berkeley Heights United U12 Boys Defeats Westfield, 2-0, in Season Opener

WESTFIELD, NJ - BHYSC United defeated Westfield, 2-0, in the opening game of the Mid New Jersey Soccer League U12 Boys 2014 spring season.

The boys started brightly and dominated the play for much of the first half.  At halftime however, despite the lopsided possession, it was still 0-0.   A shuffle of the line-up caught Westfield off guard and United capitalized with two goals in five minutes. At the back, United defenders were composed and kept Westfield from causing goalkeeper, Chris Machin, any real problems.

Steven Fudenna scored both goals on assists from Sean McCulloch and Ben Grimes.

United Head Coach Steve Grimes said, “In the end it was resolute defending that won the game. Clean sheets are a precious commodity in this league, so a 2-0 win is an excellent start to the season.”

United faces Branchburg next Sunday at Governor Livingston High School at 3:15 PM
