BRANCHBURG, NJ – BHYSC United defeats Branchburg, 1-0, in a hard fought battle in the Mid New Jersey Soccer League U12 Division.
After a decisive win over Westfield on Saturday, the boys of BH United traveled to Branchburg on Sunday, for what they knew would be a challenging and demanding game. The boys understood that they needed to create and capitalize on every opportunity in order to beat the previously undefeated Branchburg Crew.
United exhibited great offensive and defensive teamwork, excellent passing and speed throughout the first half. A blast at the goal by United’s Harrison Kelly was expertly deflected by Branchburg’s goalie, keeping the score tied at 0-0 at the half. But a few minutes into the second half, striker Steven Fudenna perfectly crossed the ball to John Robertson, who shot the ball low and hard into the far corner of the net, beyond the goalie’s reach.
The remaining portion of the second half was a battle against the clock and the unrelenting Branchburg team. A strong shot from Branchburg was deftly saved by Ryan Emma in goal, keeping the score at 1-0. When the final whistle blew, United celebrated a hard fought win over an excellent competitor.
“The coaches are very happy, not just with the win, but with how well the boys are playing as a team and their continued improvement as players,” Coach Kelly explained. “The boys have increased their technical ability, strength and stamina. Many joined their school track team / running club at Head Coach Grime's suggestion, and I think you can see the difference. The boys have out-hustled the other teams all season and we hope to finish strong.”
