BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ - School days take in more than classroom hours, with hundreds of students participating in sports and extracurricular activities. The Bernards Township Board of Education has set the salaries of coaches, music and drama organizers, club advisors and other activities.

Coaching stipends totaling nearly $300,000 at Ridge High School were approved July 23. They include head coaches, of which football coach Bill Tracy is the highest paid at $12,918. Five gridiron assistants receive $8,525 each and a sixth $7,672.

Head coaches in boys basketball (Brian Feath), girls basketball (Eric Schroeder) and wrestling (Steve Hendershot) were approved at $11,621 per season.

Ten other coaches are paid $9,785 for the season. They are head boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, baseball, softball, field hockey, boys and girls lacrosse, and boys cross country.

The head ice hockey coach is paid a stipend of $8,931.

Another 14 head coaches will receive $8,327 per season. They are girls cross country, indoor boys and girls winter track, swimming, skiing, boys and girls golf, boys and girls tennis, fencing, boys and girls volleyball, gymnastics, and fall cheerleading.

Other positions include cheerleading in other seasons and eight seasonal fitness center monitors.

More than $205,000 was approved for various extracurricular activities outside the high school.

Webmasters at Liberty Corner, Cedar Hill and middle schools will be paid $6,621 apiece. Four technology specialists at those schools will get $4,982 each.

Seven people were hired to work at elementary schools to organize intramurals. Six people will oversee the drama club at Liberty Corner School, and two at Cedar Hill. A total of five morning proctors were hired.

Eight staffers will work in the music program at William Annin Middle School, with others supervising the yearbook, Student Council, eighth grade excursions and homework club. Nine were hired at $66 per hour and one at a stipend of $1,495 to supervise weekend detention, and three staffers at $2,544 each for peer leadership activities.

Three team leaders for each of the sixth, seventh and eighth grades were hired at stipends of $4,642 apiece, are with 14 team leaders at Cedar Hill and Liberty Corner earning $2,320 each.
