HOLMDEL, NJ — The Bernards boys' and girls' cross country teams each finished in the top six in their respective 5K races at the state Group 2 meet Saturday morning at Holmdel Park.
The Bernards boys cross country team finished third overall. Bernards' team score of 171 was behind first-place Haddonfield (42) and second-place Voorhees (75).
Ryan Kleinert was the top Bernards runner, finishing 26th with a time of 17:35. Chris Reyda finished 31st at 17:42. Tim McGrath placed 33rd with 17:46. Edward Byers was 40th at 17:55. And Charles Porr came in 74th among the 148 runners in the field at 18:33.
The Mountaineers girls cross country team finished sixth overall with 196 team points in a race won by Metuchen with a score of 64.
Sophomore Kelsey Klein was the fastest Bernards runner, coming in 27th with a time of 20:49. Right behind her at 28th was Caroline McDowell, who ran 20:53. Hadley Meckes was 42d at 21:20. Olivia Musum was 51st with 21:37. And Sage Rudolf was 72d out of 132 runners with a 22:47.
