BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — Kensington Garvin, a student at Bernards High School, was recently awarded the Summit Prep Strive for Excellence Scholarship from Summit Prep in the amount of $5,000. A virtual ceremony was held in the beginning of September, when Garvin was presented with a certificate and congratulated by Bernardsville Mayor Mary Jane Canose and the staff from Summit Prep.

Gavin, a rising junior, shared during the ceremony that she plans on becoming a nurse and hopes to study at University of Michigan.  “You should be extremely proud of yourself. Take this, learn from it, move forward, strive for the best personal growth is awesome,” said Summit Prep Educational Consultant Kristen. Geri Yurkon, director of operations at Summit Prep added, “We are looking forward to spending the next several months. Working together with you and helping you get to get where it is you want to be and to achieve your goals”.

Canose had previously read Garvin’s essay submission and said, “Sometimes I think students feel pressured to be perfect, so I think the philosophy you wrote about striving for personal excellence instead of perfection and being aware that along the way you will make mistakes is such a great way to look at life. I really admire you for reaching that awareness at such a young age. I have no doubt that you will achieve whatever goals you set for yourself”.
