BHCP Throws Summer Pool Party for Members of the Community

July 19, 2014 at 11:21 PM

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Berkeley Heights Community Pool continued to celebrate its 50th summer this weekend with a Summer Party Fundraiser/Open House on Saturday. All day the pool was open for non-members to come and enjoy the pool for free. Members were also allowed to bring guests for no additional cost.

There was no shortage of activities going on throughout the day. Adults and children were kept busy making crafts, getting their faces painted, playing dodgeball with lifeguards, and participating in a scavenger hunt. DJ John of City Sound Entertainment kept the crowd happy and entertained with music from every decade.

Kayla’s Creative Art Studio was also on hand giving art classes every hour. The feature activity was the dunk tank, donated by sponsor Taylor Rental. Those getting dunked ranged from BHCP swim coaches and staff members to Berkeley Heights baseball coaches, with the highlight being pool manager Erika Naftalis.

Ms. Naftalis later commented, “You could see how much fun everyone was having all day, and (all the kids) loved being able to dunk their coaches and me.”

Pete’s Place at Yogoccino was also there, offering members a selection from their menu, along with ice cream and frozen yogurt. The restaurant graciously donated a portion of their earnings from the day back to the pool.

The pool party served as the final day to enter the ongoing basket raffle. Prizes included a Kindle Fire, a badminton set, a 3-month membership to the Berkeley Heights Y, a gift certificate to Pearly Whites, and a free moonwalk rental from Taylor Rental. The largest basket was a family membership for the pool for the 2015 season, valued at $550. Winners were drawn at the conclusion of the open house.

Board member Erin Buckley thanked everyone who helped put the party together. “We are so appreciative of all the work that our staff put in; they, along with the board, really went above and beyond in making today possible.”

Board President Arthur Barbera added, “Thank you to everyone for coming and making today so successful. It’s great that 50 years later the pool is still such a wonderful asset to our community.”
