Now in its second year, ‘Bike 4 a Bike’ has returned to get kids off of the couch and onto the bike.  And if warmer weather isn’t enough encouragement, local business the Montclair Bikery is offering a new bike to each high school and middle school that participates.
The program is simple: kids who ride to school between the months of April and June are entered in a lottery each time they ride for a new bike.  As encouragement along the way, students are rewarded for hitting certain levels of riding.  10 times gets them a water bottle, 20 times for a lock and so on, for a bike computer, a tune-up and a helmet.
And the best part is that the program is free.  Local schools are invited to participate by reminding students of the program each week. The Montclair Bikery offers free cycling safety courses to participating schools.  The Montclair Bikery has partnered this year with international retailer Specialized bicycles to provide the bikes to the participating schools.
