Blotter: 12 Vehicular Break-ins/Attempts in 8 Days and More

MONTCLAIR, NJ - The Montclair Police Department has released the police blotter for August 4 to August 11.  Within eight days, there were 13 vehicular break-ins or attempts.  A man was arrested on a report of a hit and run with his child in the car and more on this week's blotter....

Arrest:

On 08/10/2014, Officers responded to Claremont Avenue and N. Willow

Street on a report of a hit-and-run accident.  Witnesses observed a black Acura TL rear-end a vehicle and flee the scene.  Officers located and stopped this Acura on Elm Street.  The operator, Okien Green (30yoa from East Orange) was found to have multiple warrants out of Montclair ($600), East Orange ($700), West Orange ($464) and Newark ($200). He also had his 6-year-old daughter in the vehicle.  This child was sitting in a car seat, which was not properly secured to the vehicle.   Mr. Green was placed under arrest on these warrants.  He was also issued numerous motor vehicle summonses.  The child was turned over to a family member at headquarters.  Officers observed damage to Mr. Green’s vehicle, consistent with having been in this accident.  There were no injuries reported. 

Robbery:

On 08/11/2014, at 2153Hrs Officers responded to Shell Gas Station (115 Bloomfield Avenue) on a report of an armed robbery.  The victim stated that he was walking in the parking lot of the Gas Station when he was approached by three males.  One of these suspects brandished a silver folding knife and demanded that he turn over his property.  The suspects took a black Jansport book bag and fled on foot, north on Pine Street.  This book bag contained a pair of Nike Sneakers valued at $60.  The suspects are described as #1 black male, approx. 20yoa, 6’3 with a thin build, short dreadlocks, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and cargo pants.  #2 black male, approx. 20yoa, 5’7 with a thin build, white t-shirt, long dreadlocks.  #3 black male, approx. 20yoa, wearing a white t-shirt.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective T. Burglary:

On 08/06/2014, Officers responded to a Chestnut Street residence on a report of a burglary.  The victim stated that between 8/2 and 8/5, unknown person(s) entered their apartment through a first floor window.  Taken in this incident was clothing and numerous pairs of sneakers.  Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751. 

Motor Vehicle Break-in/Attempts:

On 08/04/2014, Officers were dispatched to Eagle Rock Way on a report of a theft from a motor Vehicle.  The vehicle, a black Jeep Liberty, was entered between 2000Hrs on 08/03 and 0730Hrs on 08/04. On 08/05/2014, Officers were dispatched to Valley Road near Claremont Avenue on a report of a theft from a motor Vehicle.  The vehicle, an Audi A3, was entered between 1700Hrs on 08/04 and 0730Hrs on 08/05. On 08/05/2014, at 0427Hrs Officers were dispatched to Garden Place on a report of suspects attempting to gain access to a residence and a motor Vehicle. The victim heard the suspects outside his window discussing their failed attempt to enter his residence and vehicle. The victim believes that there were three suspects in this incident.  The silhouette of a suspect he observed was 5’8 with a slim build. On 08/05/2014, Officers were dispatched to Bellevue Avenue on a report of a theft from a motor Vehicle.  The vehicle, a Nissan Juke, was entered between 0030Hrs and 0330Hrs on 08/05. On 08/05/2014, Officers were dispatched to Erie Street to a report of damage to a motor vehicle.  The damage occurred between 2300Hrs on 08/4 and 0800Hrs on 08/05.  The vehicle, a Mini Cooper, had a brick thrown through its rear passenger side window. The victim also observed pry marks on the top of the driver side door.  An iPod charger was taken in this incident.  The suspects may have been attempting to locate a valet key in the glove box.  Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751. 

On 08/05/2014, Officers were dispatched to Erie Street on an attempted motor vehicle theft.  This attempt happened between 2300Hrs on 08/04 and 0800Hrs on 08/05.  The vehicle, a Honda Civic, had a potted plant thrown through its driver side window.  The glove box of this vehicle had been emptied onto the passenger seat.  There was also damage to the steering column, consistent with an attempt to start this vehicle.  Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751. 

On 08/05/2014, Officers were dispatched to Valley Road near Claremont Avenue on a report of a theft from a motor Vehicle.  The vehicle, a Volvo S40, was entered between 2100Hrs on 08/04 and 0930Hrs on 08/05.  $7.00 cash and Ray Ban sunglasses were taken in this incident.  Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751. 

On 08/05/2014, Officers were dispatched to South Mountain Avenue near Bloomfield Avenue, on a report of a theft from a motor Vehicle.  The vehicle, a black Audi A8, was entered between 1745Hrs on 08/04 and 1100Hrs on 08/05.  A change purse containing $3.00, and a lighter were taken in this incident.  Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751. 

On 08/05/2014, Officers were dispatched to Montclair Avenue, on a report of a theft from a motor Vehicle.  The vehicle, a black Honda Pilot, was entered between 0030Hrs on 08/03 and 2035Hrs on 08/05.  It is unknown if anything was taken in this incident. A witness observed two juveniles, a white male with curly brown hair, and a black male, standing near this vehicle earlier on 08/05.   Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751. 

On 08/08/2014, Officers were dispatched to North Mountain Avenue near Claremont Avenue, on a report of a theft from a motor Vehicle.  The vehicle, a black Honda Civic, was entered between 2130Hrs on 08/07 and 0800Hrs on 08/08. $15 in loose change was taken.  Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751. 

On 08/11/2014, Officers were dispatched to Melrose Place, on a report of a theft from a motor Vehicle.  The vehicle, a black Nissan Pathfinder, was entered between 1900Hrs on 08/10 and 0900Hrs on 08/11. A black and grey Swiss Army backpack, containing a red Samsung laptop, was taken in this incident.  Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751. 

On 08/11/2014, Officers were dispatched to Eagle Rock Way, on a report of a theft from a motor Vehicle.  The vehicle, a black Acura RDX, was entered between 2100Hrs on 08/10 and 0530Hrs on 08/11. Theft:

On 08/11/2014, Officers responded to Brunswick Road on a report of a burglary.  The victim, a construction worker at the home, stated that at 1500Hrs he observed two males walking out of the side door of this residence.  The victim went to the basement and noticed that his NY Yankees baseball cap and $20 were missing from his personal belongings in the basement.  The suspects are described as #1 black male, approx. 40yoa, tall with a heavy build, clean shaven, wearing a white t-shirt and baseball cap with no logo. #2 black male, 30-35yoa, average height with a thin build, short hair and clean-shaven.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective R. On 08/09/2014, at 1630Hrs, laptop was stolen from the customer area of Starbucks, 40 S. Park Street.  The laptop had been left charging, for approximately one hour, while the owner sat outside the establishment.  When the owner returned inside to retrieve the laptop, he observed that it had been taken.  The laptop is described as a 17” purple Dell Laptop with a “Kale Is Cool” sticker on the cover.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective J.
