Both Sparta High School Lacrosse Teams Win Big

SPARTA, NJ - The boys lacrosse team from Sparta High School beat Wallkill Valley by a resounding 20-1 in the first round of the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex Tournament. Cole Zugelder led the way with four goals and an assist.  

Jake Freedman and Andrew Smith each had three goals and John Puszcz had two.  There were additional goals from Jack Bushey, Zack Eberding, Lucas Faria, Skyler Francisco, Erik Lanyi, Owen Mead, Tyler Mead and Connor Sheridan.

Nick Clayton contributed with seven ground balls, Puszcz had six and Eric Reinhard had four.

Goalie Reagan Penner stopped four shots.  Penner shared the net with Dan Smith who made two saves. 

Playing at home, this brings the Spartans' record to 7-7.  They travel to Hunterdon Central on May 15 for a 6 p.m. game.

On Wednesday, the Sparta High School girls lacrosse team beat North Warren, 19-3, at home in the first round of the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex tournament.  Julia Silvestri was impressive with six goals, an assist and a ground ball. Julia Corrice and Beth McGraw each scored three.  Alex Curran, Mackenzie Maguire and Taryn Penna contributed two and Julianna McGuire had one. 

Sparta goalie Bridget DenBoer saw nine shots, saving six for the victory. The Sparta girls' lacrosse record is 8-6.  They will face Villa Walsh on May 12.

Sparta Police: Intoxicated Sparta Man Crashes into Light Pole

SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed into a light pole.  On January 9 around 11 p.m. Sparta police Cpl. Kurt Morris responded to the report of a naccident on West Shore Trail near White Deer Plaza according to police.

SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta man faces numerous charges including driving while intoxicated after speeding past a police car on Woodport Road.  Jake Forshey drove past police officer Tom Snyder on January 8 around 2:50 a.m, according to police.
