NEW BRUNSWICK,  NJ - Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department announced today that a Bound Brook man has been charged and arrested for the murder of Jose Medero, 51, of New Brunswick.  

John Santanna, 20, of Bound Brook was charged and arrested with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.  

On February 27, 2021, at approximately 1:18 A.M., while on patrol, New Brunswick police officers located Medero who had sustained a gunshot wound.  Medero was pronounced dead at the scene.  An investigation by Detective Elfi Martinez of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Sean Sullivan of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined Santanna shot Medero while the victim was seated in his vehicle in the area of Seaman Street and Remsen Avenue.

Santanna is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.
