ROXBURY, NJ - Four people seeking to represent Roxbury in the state Legislature will participate Oct. 23 in virtual debates.
The two events are being hosted by the League of Women Voters of New Jersey and the Morris County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Two candidates are running for one state Senate seat representing Roxbury: Incumbent state Sen. Anthony Bucco (R) and challenger Rupande Mehta (D) Each candidate will make a brief opening statement and then answer questions submitted in advance by members of the community.
Their session will take place at 6 p.m.

Each candidate will make a brief opening statement and then answer questions submitted in advance by members of the community.
Their session will take place at 8 p.m.
People can submit questions for the candidates here until noon on Oct. 22.
Both forums will be live-streamed on YouTube on the Morristown Area League of Women Voters channel.
"With the support of the community, the League of Women Voters encourages informed and active participation in government," said the League in a statement. "Unaffiliated with any political party, the nonpartisan League hosts candidates’ forums, registers and educates voters and advocates on public policy issues."
The NAACP describes itself as "a multi-ethnic coalition of freedom fighters who are in pursuit of The Beloved Community."
The national organization said it was founded in 1909 "in response to the ongoing violence against Black people around the country," and says its mission "is to secure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.
