Madison, NJ – On Thursday, October 10 at 7 pm in the Madison Junior School gymnasium, 17 volleyball teams comprised of junior school students went head-to-head to raise money to benefit the American Cancer Society. This is the second year that the Madison Junior School Student Council organized the charity volleyball tournament.
“Last year was a great success and the students wanted to participate in the challenge again this year to raise breast cancer awareness and support the American Cancer Society,” stated Stephen Finkelstein, advisor for the Madison Junior School Student Council.
The volleyball tournament is the kick-off event leading into next week, which is “Pink Week” at the junior school. All of the events next week will support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and culminate in the Sunday, October 20 “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk in Parsippany.
During “Pink Week,” the Junior School Student Council will be selling pink bracelets, buttons, t-shirts, and retired sports jersey and shorts during the lunch periods. Additionally, teachers throughout the district will be able to support the cause by contributing money in exchange for wearing denim to school. All proceeds will support Team Bunco at the Making Strides walk onSunday, October 20, which will be the 14th year that the Madison school staff will be walking as a team.
At Madison Junior School, the purpose is to develop life-long learners who are informed, responsible and productive young citizens. Faculty and administration try to achieve this by providing challenging and diverse programs that reflect high expectations of a caring environment. Opportunities abound to learn effectively, to think critically, and to participate wholeheartedly, both in the classroom and in clubs and sports.
