Burglaries and Auto Theft in Maplewood

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The following items were reported by the Maplewood Police Department:

April 24, 2014; Burglary; Between 1 and 2:30 PM a home on Hillcrest Road was entered.  Nothing was reported missing at the time of the report.

April 25, 2014; Burglary; During the daytime and unsecured home on Berkley Street was entered and several items of clothing and electronics were taken.  Through investigation, the actor was identified as 20 year old Khalid Underwood of Jersey City.  Mr Underwood was located and taken into custody on April 30.  He had multiple outstanding warrants, was charged with the burglary and remanded to Essex County Jail.

April 26, 2014; Theft of Motor Vehicle; At approximately 7:45 PM, a witness observed the theft of a Honda Accord from in front of a home on Union Avenue.

April 27, 2014; Attempt Theft of Motor Vehicle; During the late afternoon or overnight hours, a Jeep parked in the driveway of a Meadowbrook Road home was entered and the actor attempted to steal the vehicle.

All incidents are currently under investigation by the Detective Bureau.  Residents are asked to practice good crime prevention techniques and secure their homes, garages and automobiles when left unattended.
