NYACK, NY - The Caldwell College men’s basketball team fell to Nyack College on the road, 84-72 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up Thursday afternoon at Bowman Gymnasium. The loss gives the Cougars a 7-5 record overall, including a 3-2 conference mark, while the Warriors improve to 4-7, 2-3 CACC.
Neither team gained a significant advantage in the first half, with five lead changes and three ties. Trailing 25-22 with 7:45 on the clock, Caldwell tallied the next nine points to lead 31-25. The run included a four-point play from sophomore guard Dawan Lighty (Paterson, NJ / Kennedy), who was fouled while making a three-pointer. The Cougars ended up taking a 36-33 lead at the break, with junior guard Wyatt Polk (Haddonfield, NJ / Haddonfield) scoring 10 points in the half.
Over the first five minutes of the second half, Caldwell was able to increase its lead to 45-40 following a pair of baskets by sophomore forward Terik Bridgeman (Harlem, NY / Nia Prep). Nyack responded with seven straight points, punctuated by a three from Chris Hampton, to take a 47-45 advantage at the 13-minute mark. With the score tied at 51-51 with 10 minutes left, the Warriors took control of the game with a 14-4 spree to lead 65-66 with 6:13 remaining.
The Cougars battled to get back in the game, getting nine points from junior guard Kevin Walker (Bayonne, NJ / St. Peter’s Prep) in a 13-4 run that made it a one-point game, 71-70 with two minutes to play. But the Warriors scored the next seven points, aided by a pair of Caldwell turnovers, to put the game out of reach.
Nyack made 25-of-28 (89.3 percent) from the free throw line for the game compared to 18-of-28 for Caldwell. The hosts also held a 40-31 rebounding advantage and grabbed 16 boards on the offensive glass that led to 20 second-chance points.
Bridgeman paced the Cougars with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and added a season-high 14 rebounds

Walker contributed 10 points, five assists and four steals
Hampton hit six threes to lead Nyack with 26 points
