LIVINGSTON, NJ - Livingston Public School’s greatest assets are our students, teachers, administrators and staff. It is the Board’s responsibility to provide them with the resources for maximizing learning to ensure that all students are provided the opportunity to reach their full potential in a safe and positive learning environment. In support of this goal, LPS is fortunate to have close partnerships with school-based PTAs and HSAs and organizations like the Livingston Education Foundation to support LPS, by volunteering time and raising money. For the past six years, I have contributed my personal time and professional expertise to these groups. Our opponent has had thirteen years to work with LPS and to offer his personal time and professional expertise but has chosen not to do so.
With the hiring of Dr. Alfieri, our new Superintendent, ensuring continuity for the LPS community is a top priority. After Dr. Alfieri’s 100 Days of Listening Campaign, the community will hear his observations and begin the collaborative process of putting a Strategic Plan in place that will outline the District’s priorities. The Board has tasked Dr. Alfieri to examine all that we do, with an eye towards the 21st century learner. The District must continue its goal of providing the best education possible, with a constant review of curriculum to ensure that it provides the necessary rigor for our students and meets the criteria of the new national Core Curriculum Standards. The curriculum review should also include a thorough review and careful analysis of our current programs, such as the collapse of CP1 and CP2 and elective designations at the high school, the K-8 math and language arts programs, and the elementary school six-day rotation for specials such as Spanish and Art.
