Car Accident Leads to DWI Arrest on Shunpike Road

CHATHAM, NJ - A minor accident on Shunpike Road led to a Driving While Intoxicated Arrest on Wednesday in Chatham Township.

On May 7 at 12:11 p.m., Officer Michael Bloom responded to Shunpike Road for a motor vehicle accident. During the officer’s investigation of the accident, an odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on one of the driver’s breath.

A subsequent roadside sobriety investigation determined that the driver, Elizabeth Hathaway, 28, of Green Village was found to have driven her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Hathaway was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. At police headquarters she was processed and later released after being issued summonses for driving while intoxicated.

She also was charged with driving while intoxicated in a school zone and careless driving. Hathaway is scheduled to appear in the Joint Municipal Court on May 13, 2014. The accident was minor and there were no reported injuries.
