LIVINGSTON, NJ – On the morning of Dec. 11 at 6:30 a.m., a car was stolen from 1 Alpine Way in Livingston.
The homeowner started her car to let it warm up and returned into the house. When she came back out again she locked the front door and turned to watch her blue 2010 Lexus RX leave her driveway.
The thief turned and drove into a dead end which allowed the homeowner to observe the driver turn around and pass her house. She also reported that a black vehicle was following behind.
The thief was able to escape and the car has not yet been recovered. A Livingston detective is currently searching a certain area in Newark where other stolen vehicles from Livingston and other surrounding towns have been successfully recovered.
Sergeant Anthony Dippold said that it is not advised by the Livingston Police Department to leave cars unlocked and running. “If people are going to warm up their car it should be done with a secure automatic start unit which will not allow the vehicle to be driven away.”
