Catching Up With the 9U Cal Ripken Tournament Champs

August 27, 2014 at 2:41 PM

As summer winds down and class schedules are prepared to go out, the 9U Basking Ridge Little League team wraps up a very eventful season. Not only did they travel for a tournament in Tennessee, but they won the 9U Mid-Atlantic Cal Ripken Regional Championship in a 10-6 game against Marlton.

“It was more of sharing this win together. … We have had a couple games that we were down and we are kind of known as the ‘Cardiac Kids’ where it could be the 6th inning and our kids could start a rally and they win. [That's] probably [the best part] and how close they all are,” Jennifer Aber said.

Not only did these 9-year olds have an incredibly successful season, but also they seemed to have shared a lot of memories together. From a cap gun fight, to a dance off, to some pretty terrific inside jokes, the boys seem to enjoy hanging out together as a team.

While splashing around at their end of the year pool party, the boys named No. 4 Brian Leitz as the fastest, but No. 12 Matt Fabio as the funniest of them all. They shared that they win more often in black jerseys but overall prefer to wear the white ones, which they did in the Championship.

“What makes our boys so special is the trust they have with each other.. They know they can count on one another to get the job done and when one is a little 'off' on a given day there are 11 other players there to bring him up,” Aber said.
